ELYRIA, Ohio – Rocky River opened Great Lakes Conference action with a split in two league matches on Thursday. River beat Elyria Catholic, 42-24, and lost to Normandy, 54-29.
The Pirates won 7-of-11 live bouts (non-forfeits) on the evening. A.J. Ihnot had two pins in going 2-0 at 220 pounds. The senior grappler is now 7-2 with seven pins since Dec. 30.
Matt Williams went 2-0 with two wins by fall at 106 pounds. At 126, Josh Bergin logged a tech fall and a win by forfeit. Wrestling at 195 pounds, Tommy Koch registered two wins with a pin and an opponent forfeit.
The Pirates were scheduled to return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Bill Dies Memorial Tournament in Akron, Ohio, but that event has been canceled due to weather/travel concerns.
