Boys Varsity Golf · River beats Bay in battle of league’s best


AVON LAKE, Ohio – Rocky River won a key Great Lakes Conference match on Tuesday, defeating the Bay Rockets, 163-170, at Sweetbriar Golf Course.

The M & M Boys — Mac Milenius and Matthew McDonald – paced River’s efforts in the battle between conference unbeatens. Milenius carded six pars en route to firing a 3-over 38 over the 2,934-yard front nine at the Avon Lake track. McDonald posted five pars on his way to a 40.

The Pirates (8-3, 6-0 GLC) – three-time defending GLC champions – are now 59-1 (.983) over 60 all-time GLC matches. The 2018 GLC season will conclude with the league’s championship tournament on Sept. 26.

River’s next action is slated for Wednesday, when the Pirates travel to Red Tail Golf Club in Avon to take on Lutheran West in a non-conference match.

 

CANNON FIRE …

HOW SWEET IT IS: Rounding out Rocky River’s four scoring players at Sweetbriar were Ethan Mylett (42) and Will Bennett (43). Mylett, Bennett and Mac Milenius have each logged top-4 scores in all of the Pirates’ matches this season. … Fifth-man Tommy Kelly carded the team’s lone birdie on Tuesday. Kelly birdied the 136-yard, par-3 second hole at Sweetbriar.

RR JV A-OK: River’s junior varsity squad collected another victory on Tuesday. The Pirates defeated the Bay JV, 165-206, over a soggy inward nine at Big Met Golf Course in Fairview Park. The four low balls were posted by John Snyder (career-best 40), Hayden Weaver (career-best 41), Nathan Robertson (42) and Carlo Fricano (42). The Pirate JV is now 5-1 o the season.
