ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — Rocky River cruised to a Great Lakes Conference victory, defeating the Elyria Catholic Panthers, 9-0, on Wednesday evening.
The Pirates (5-4, 3-0 GLC) got three goals from sophomore Maya Patti and two from senior Annie O’Toole in the one-sided affair at Rocky River Stadium. With the victory, No. 8 (Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association) Rocky River bounced back from a 1-0 home setback on Monday, a loss that snapped a streak of eight straight wins at home.
River led Wednesday’s match, 3-0, at the half. The Pirates doubled that lead with rapid-fire netfinders early in the second half and would go on to tally the program’s most goals in a single game since defeating the 2017 edition of the Panthers, 9-0 (Sept. 20, 2017).
O’Toole, Allison Contenza and Addie Harris notched their first goals of the 2018 season in Wednesday’s win over E.C. Sophia Murray (third goal this season) and Lydia Brandt (second) also scored for the Pirates, who had scored more than one goal in just two previous matches this season (2 vs. Lake Catholic, Aug. 22; 3 vs. Indianapolis Cathedral, Sept. 1).
The shutout marked the Pirates’ third of the season.
