NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio – Rocky River had a 1-0 halftime lead melt into a 2-1 loss in a Great Lakes Conference match against Holy Name on Wednesday.
The 10th-ranked (Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association – DII) Pirates got a first-half goal from Allison Contenza, but the second half at Serpentini Stadium went the way of the Green Wave. Holy Name (7-3-1, 5-1 GLC) tied the match at 1-1 midway through the second half. The Green Wave won it on a goal in the penultimate minute (79th) to run their home record to 3-1.
Contenza’s goal marked her second of the season and ninth of her career. River is 1-2 against Holy Name over the last two seasons (2017-18); all three matches have been decided by one goal.
The Pirates (6-5, 3-1) are scheduled to return to action with a Monday home game against Solon.
