Boys Varsity Soccer · River pulls rank, downs Lexington, 3-1

LEXINGTON, Ohio — Senior Christian Devorace closed out a productive week with another two-goal game, as Rocky River downed the No. 8-ranked (Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association, DII) Lexington Minutemen, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.

Devorace — who scored one goal in a game on Monday and two on Wednesday — scored the first goal of Saturday’s road tilt against Lexington after a nifty cutback move. Sophomore Jacob Bergin doubled River’s lead before halftime with a lefty shot whipped into the bottom right-corner of the net.

Early in the second half, Devorace scored his fifth of the week when he converted on a penalty kick. The host Minutemen got one back in the second half, but with junior goalkeeper Connor O’Toole stopping five shots, the Pirates (8-1-2) prevailed.

With his five-goal week, Christian Devorace has now found the back of the net 11 times this season.
