WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Rocky River fell to a talented Columbus Watterson team by a score of 2-0 on Saturday.
In the contest played at Otterbein University, the unbeaten Eagles – ranked No. 6 in last week’s Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Girls’ Division I poll — scored one goal in each half and held sway in shots on goal by a wide margin.
Watterson tallied its netfinders in the 15th and 45th minutes of the contest. Possession time and a staunch defense continued what is now a five-match unscored-upon stretch for the Eagles (12-0-2).
Gabrielle Avila and Sabrina Rick made a combined 17 saves for the Pirates.
With the loss, River is now 7-6-1 on the season. Four of the Pirates’ six losses have come against teams currently ranked as Ohio top-10s.
The Pirates are slated to return to action with a Great Lakes Conference match at Parma on Tuesday (Byers Field, 7 p.m.).
