PARMA, Ohio – Rocky River closed out its Great Lakes Conference slate with an 8-0 victory over Parma on Tuesday night.
The Pirates (8-6-1, 5-1 GLC) finished with just one conference loss (2-1 at Holy Name on Sept. 26) against five wins in a circuit campaign that saw four shutout victories. Tuesday’s win fits in that category: the Pirates had five different players find the back of the net, while the Redmen failed to land a shot on goal.
Sophomore Maya Patti scored three goals for River. Junior Lizzie Hamker added two, and senior Allison Contenza registered a goal and three assists.
Patti struck first, netting her eighth goal of the season in the 10th minute. The Pirates would go on to score five times in the opening half. Rocky River added three more scores in the second, all the while preventing sophomore netminder Sabrina Rick from having to engage in any glove-work.
Patti has now registered a double-digit goal total for a second straight season. The artful and athletic forward tallied 11 goals in her 2017 freshman season. With her performance at Parma, Patti joined River’s career-50-point club: she boarded the Pirate team bus Tuesday as the owner of 21 goals and 10 assists (51 points). She’s now tied for 26th place with 2007 graduate Meredith Gourash on the program’s all-time points list.
Contenza also made a move on the all-time points list with her five-point night. The senior’s second-half goal marked the 10th of her career, and her three helpers upped her team-leading assist total on the season to eight. The 2017 Second Team All-Ohio selection has now scored 42 points in her prep career.
Rocky River is now 4-0 all-time against Parma. The Pirates’ all-time GLC mark now stands at 18-6 (.750).
River is scheduled to host Chagrin Falls on Thursday (Rocky River Stadium, 7 p.m.).
