ELYRIA, Ohio — Rocky River was on the wrong end of a 72-26 rout at Elyria Catholic on Wednesday.
The talented Panthers (17-4, 11-0 Great Lakes Conference) rode dominant second- and third-quarter point totals in the home-court victory over a Rocky River squad which has now lost three straight. Rocky River (6-13, 4-7) went toe-to-toe with Elyria Catholic in a first period that saw the Panthers score 11 points to River’s eight. But the home five cranked out a 25-5 advantage in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 36-13 lead.
Elyria Catholic tripled up River, 24-8, in the third, and the Panthers were well on their way to their 12th win this season with a margin of victory of 25 points-or-more.

Rocky River is now twice included in that group of Panther plunders: EC downed the Pirates, 71-42, in Rocky River on Jan. 12. The Panthers haven’t lost since Jan. 21; they’ve won six straight since.
For the Maroon & White, Wednesday’s contest marked the beginning of a busy stretch that has the squad playing five games in eight days.
