ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — Rocky River opened Great Lakes Conference play with a 5-0 victory over Parma on Wednesday.
An early sweep of the two doubles matches lifted the Pirates (3-4, 1-0 GLC) to a 2-0 lead, and Jack Latham finished off the shutout in second singles in what was the closest match of the afternoon. River’s performance at Tri-City park lifted the team’s 2019 home mark to 2-1.
Latham won his match against Parma’s Riffigie Sano, 7-6 (5), 5-7, 10-5. The sophomore has now won back-to-back matches after starting his season 0-5.
Tony Ilias defeated Riffigie Sano’s brother, Ralph, 6-4, 6-2, in first singles.
The doubles tandem of Christian Devorace and Julian Clark won in dominant fashion, 6-0, 6-1. Devorace and Clark are now 4-1 since Saturday and 4-2 on the season.
