ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — Rocky River earned a 5-0 shutout over North Olmsted on Tuesday. Flipping the script from a 5-0 loss to the Eagles a year ago, the Pirates (6-5) got strong play up and down the lineup in the decisive non-conference victory.
“The boys came out firing,” said Head Coach Ben Purdy. “They were winning first sets on every court and aggressively setting the tone.”
Emblematic of that strong play was senior Ryan Kosmerl, who was half of a doubles win in a hard-fought 7-6, 6-2 match. Kosmerl (awarded Tuesday’s game ball by the Pirates) and partner Ethan Mylett are now 5-0 on the season.
Senior Tony Ilias (first singles) and sophomore Jack Latham (third singles) also picked up key wins in close matches on Tuesday. Latham is now 4-2 over his last six matches.
The 5-0 shutout marked Rocky River’s second of the season.
