AMHERST, Ohio — Rocky River competed in the 64th Annual Comet Relays on Saturday. [results]
In what was an expansive field of talented teams at Amherst Steele High School, Rocky River placed 16th in the boys’ competition and T-10th in the girls’.
The Double-R boys tallied 17 points in the meet. Pirate points were garnered by Jack McDonough (second place in the 1600-meter run), Daishaun Hill (eighth, 110-meter hurdles) and by team efforts in the high-jump relay (led by Hill) and the shot-put and discus relays (led by Michael Shoaf).
On the girls’ side, River logged 29 points. The Maroon & White earned a third-step podium finish in the 4×1600 relay (Jane Murray, Aiofe Zuercher, Katie Wojnowski, Mafe Chaves). River clocked in fourth in the 4×100-meter shuttle hurdle relay (Makenna Pfaff, Hannah Paulin, Daijah Hill, Ava Meredith). Makenna Pfaff earned four points for her fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. The Pirates took fifth in the 4×800 (Aiofe Zuercher, Saraa Abuzahrieh, Allison Contenza, Sam Coleman). Sam Coleman scored two with her seventh-place finish in the 3200. Leah Schellentrager, Pfaff and Hill led Rocky River to a second-place finish in the long-jump relay.
