ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – The Pirates fell behind early and didn’t have a rally in them, as Rocky River was dealt a 19-4 loss by the Parma Redman on Monday.
Parma plated eight runs in the top-of-the-second en route to opening a 12-1 lead through three innings. The Redmen batted around in the second and would again in a seven-run fourth, as they exacted a measure of retribution for an 11-7 loss to the Pirates on April 18.
For the game, Parma out-hit Rocky River, 15-8. Redmen batters were especially adept in coming through in clutch situations: Parma went 10-of-17 with runners in scoring position.
Catie Wolons (2-for-3, RBI, two runs scored) and Katie Mommers (2-for-3) each logged multi-hit afternoons for Rocky River (5-9, 3-3 Great Lakes Conference). Both kept hit streaks alive with the first of those hits. Mommers has hit safely in all 14 of the Pirates’ games this season and is now batting .476 (20-for-42). Wolons – who homered in Monday’s third inning — has a now-eight-game hit streak dating back to April 9.
Monday’s action marked the beginning of a bust week for the Pirates who are also slated to play on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
