ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – River’s Boys’ and Girls’ Track & Field squads remained undefeated in Great Lakes Conference action with a sweep of Parma in a home meet on Wednesday.
On the boys’ side, Rocky River defeated Parma, 96.5-37.5. The Pirate girls won by a score of 109-22.
The River boys won 13-of-17 events on their home turf at Rocky River Stadium. The Pirates swept all three relay events and got multiple individual wins by Daishaun Hill (110-meter high hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, long jump, high jump) and Paul Broschk (shot, discus).
Rocky River had two multiple winners on the girls’ side: Daijah Hill won the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump; Leah Schellentrager took first in the long jump and 200-meter dash. River swept the relays and has done so in each GLC meet this season. The Pirate girls won 17-of-17 events on the night.
Both Pirate teams are now 6-0 on the season and 5-0 in GLC meets.
CANNON FIRE …
BEAT THE CLOCK: The Double-R boys’ team boasted 32 personal-best performances in Wednesday’s meet. Among them was the 23.3-second time earned by John C in the 200. Ruebsteck won the event.
ON DECK: The Pirates will compete in the 63rd Berea Kiwanis Titans Relays on Friday. The event will be held at Baldwin Wallace University’s Finnie Stadium. The boys and girls placed seventh and 12th, respectively, at last year’s Berea event. … Senior All-Ohio performer Michael Shoaf will be competing at the prestigious Penn Relays on Friday. The meet is the oldest and largest track & field competition in the nation, hosted annually since April 21, 1895, by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
