ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Rocky River closed out its regular season with a dominant 20-4 win over Wooster on Saturday afternoon.
Senior attacker Lauren Cain scored a career-high nine goals on what marked Senior Day for the Rocky River program. Cain was joined by seven other Pirate scorers in what marked River’s highest-scoring game of the season.
The Pirates (10-7) outscored the Generals, 11-4, over the opening half. The opening of the contest saw the Maroon & White score seven straight goals. Cain scored five of those. Rocky River blew the game wide open in the second half, outscoring Wooster, 9-0.
Standout performances were logged up and down the River roster. Senior attacker Rachel Solecki carded a goal, an assist and a caused turnover. Cain finished with nine goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Sam Miller grabbed nine ground balls. Junior middie Ellie Duncan stuffed the stat sheet with two goals, an assist, three ground balls and four caused turnovers. Senior middie Natalie Curry logged four goals and an assist while giving the Pirates a big effort on midfield draws. Senior defender Kate Matis registered three ground balls and a caused turnover. Senior defender Cat Shirley logged a goal, two scoops and a spill. Junior defender Ana Konrad recorded a goal, an assist and three ground balls.
River got big efforts from its group of nine seniors which also included Susie Cox, Sasha Ruffus, Abbie Vacca and Grace Willse.
“This was great for our seniors,” said Head Coach Lizz Steinmetz. “Now, the whole team is fired up for the playoffs.”
And that playoff lacrosse will begin on Wednesday for Rocky River. The Pirates will host Sylvania Southview in a 7 p.m. game at Rocky River Stadium. RRHS students will be admitted to all home lacrosse playoff games (boys’ lacrosse and girls’) free of charge, courtesy Legacy Capital Partners.

GOAL GETTER: With her nine scores on Saturday, Lauren Cain upped her season total to 71 goals. That marks back-to-back 70-goal campaigns for Cain. She had 79 goals a year ago and is now within five of the 200-mark for her career.
MUSCLE AND HUSTLE: With her nine ground balls on Saturday, Sam Miller now has 28 grounders over Rocky River’s last four games. Miller has a team-high 85 ground balls this season.
