ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Rocky River concluded its season Wednesday by hosting a Senior Day double-dip against Great Lakes Conference foe Holy Name. River’s four seniors and the rest of the Pirates were hamstrung by strong Green Wave pitching in a doubleheader sweep by the visitors.
Holy Name took Wednesday’s opener, 8-1. The Green Wave then closed out the day with a 12-6 win in the nightcap. Over the two games, two Holy Name pitchers combined to allow just three hits in 10 innings.
One of River’s hits was a game-one home run – a career first – for freshman Katie Mommers. The round-tripper came on a blast to left – one into a steady breeze – and it would mark the Pirates’ lone hit if the opener.
Prior to game one, the Rocky River program payed tribute to four seniors – Mo McIntyre, Nani Meese, Marissa Smiley and Catie Wolons. That quartet leaves River having amassed over 350 combined hits and nearly 250 RBIs.
The Pirates closed out their 2019 campaign with a record of 9-15.
